My first attempt creating an exterior level. I call this project - A Nightmare in Philadelphia. This month I was given a Post Apocalyptic theme, while instructed to create exterior modular assets for my environment level. Starting with gathering structural references, then creating a blockout for one of each piece, while placing, scaling, and snapping my shapes to the grid in Unreal Engine. Week 2, I had added details to those assets while creating UVs in Maya. Then importing them back into Unreal. Week 3, I had created Materials for my assets using Substance Designer, then applying them to the assets in Unreal. Week 4, I polished the level. By going to adjust lightmap density, fix and test build my lighting, reimport any models that we’re having any problems with UVs and Lightmap Density. I was introduced to a new software that I really enjoyed learning this final week. It’s called Quixel Bridge, which gave me the option to download a huge variety of decals and other details for my models to spice up my level even further. Since it is a Post Apocalyptic theme I wanted to have a lot of Vegetation to my level along with some Rain. For the rain I watched a tutorial, and it was created using a particle. I experienced a lot of crashes in Unreal this month, but I feel this project went really good. Along with this project I had worked on the Portfolio 6 assignments which also was a challenge but I feel good I managed to get both done this month.
